The well known and loved Grace Museum has been around since 1909 when it was first built as the Grace Hotel. The Grace Hotel was the finest hotel located on the railroads between El Paso and Forth Worth. In the 1960s, the passenger rail train became utilized less and less thus leaving Abilene behind in the dust. The Grace Hotel was left behind as well, closing in 1973.

Thankfully, around the 1980s, a group of visionaries saw prosperity in downtown Abilene and sought to restore the historic building. The Abilene Preservation League led the restoration process on the old hotel and by 1992 the museum was established.

Downtown Abilene has grown to love and care about The Grace Museum since it’s establishment. The museum is more than just an art gallery, it can be rented out as event space for weddings, parties, and other innovative ordeals. The Grace Museum is a staple of downtown Abilene and serves it’s purpose of representing the historic buildings of downtown Abilene.
