A great way to start exploring the Storybook Capital of America is to pick up an Adventure Guide from T&P Depot, or download one from the website.

The National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature has rotating exhibits of featured children’s picture book illustrators that will grab the imagination of kids and adults alike.

More than two dozen bronze castings of storybook characters are scattered between Everman Park, the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden and other locations around downtown.

The Children’s Museum at The Grace is a fully interactive space focusing on Art and Science Concepts through hands-on play.

If your little is intrigued by history, be sure and check out Frontier Texas!, where unique holographic images bring historical characters to life. The 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum is dedicated to telling the story of this one unit’s combat history in World War II.

Stop in at McKay’s Bakery for ladybug, monster and other cookie creations, not to mention some of the best chocolate eclairs in West Texas.

Before hitting the road, stock up on Abilene and Texas souvenirs at Texas Star Trading Co., and grab some handmade chocolates at Candies by Vletas.
